Measure Backset Length

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the borehole (where the knob or lock is installed).

  1. Locate the borehole (the large hole drilled through the face of the door for the knob or lock).
  2. Measure from the edge of the door (where the latch will be installed) to the center of that borehole.
  3. The measurement is usually 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches.

📌 Tip: If the door already has a knob installed, you can measure from the edge of the door to the center of the knob or lock cylinder.

Measure Door Thickness

Door thickness is measured across the edge of the door, from one flat face to the other. Most standard interior doors are 1-3/8" thick or 1-3/4" thick. Accurate measurement ensures your hardware will fit securely and operate correctly.

📌 Tip: Measure in multiple spots (top, middle, bottom) to check for warping, especially on older doors.

Center to Center vs Overall Lengths

  • The distance between the centers of the two screw holes. This is the standard measurement used to ensure the pull will fit existing holes in your cabinet or drawer.
→ Example: 3" center-to-center means the holes are 3" apart.

  • The total length of the pull from end to end. This may be longer than the C-C measurement depending on the design.
→ A 3" C-C pull might have an overall length of 3-1/2", 4", or more.

📌 Tip: If you're replacing existing hardware, measure the distance between the screw holes (center-to-center) to find a proper fit.
